Congress Enacts Bigger and Better Home Buyer Tax Credit
A tax credit of up to $8,000 is now available
for qualified first-time home buyers purchasing a principal residence on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
Unlike the tax credit enacted in 2008, the new credit does not have to be repaid.
There is also a $1,500
Home Energy Credit newly available.
Unlike deductions, tax credits are a dollar for dollar cut off what
you owe to Uncle Sam AND they are refundable. So if you don't owe, you will receive a check!!!

As a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), I recently sent the following letter to my local delegate:
As
your constituent, I strongly urge you to support legislation, HB
2041, sponsored by Del. Sal Iaquinto which would require
all convicted
drunk drivers to use an ignition interlock. Peer reviewed scientific
studies have proven that requiring
ignition interlocks for all
convicted DUI offenders will save lives by significantly decreasing the
likelihood of
repeat drunk driving offenses.
Drivers who have previous drunk driving convictions make up
approximately one-third
of the drunk driving problem in America. On
average, these offenders have driven drunk 87 times before they are
caught and convicted. An interlock device allows a drunk driver to
drive to work or school and provide for his
or her family. The only
thing a convicted drunk driver can't do with an interlock is drive
drunk.
Requiring these drivers to have an interlock device on their car after
their license is reinstated would help keep
our families safe from
these drunk drivers. Interlock systems have been shown to reduce
repeat offenses by
64 percent while the device is on the car. These
laws must be mandatory, as more than 50 percent of drunk drivers
continue to drive on a
suspended license.

I am pleased to say that I received an email from Delegate Kirk Cox stating that HB 2041 passed the House 91-7. It
will now go to the Senate where it will go through the same process.
